April 30, 2024, Hudson, NY: The Hendrick Hudson Chapter, NSDAR participated in the William G. Pomeroy Foundation’s 4th Annual National Historic Marker Day on a beautiful April 26th in the historic villages of Valatie and Kinderhook, New York. Auspiciously, two bald eagles were spied flying overhead.
Three chapter members (one wielding a camera), two civic-minded friends, and Rydor the dog cleaned and tidied up five historic signs, marking the 1st Presbyterian Church, the Governor (Martin) Glynn Square, and the Hoes House (home of President Martin Van Buren’s mother), as well as two at the Persons of Color Burial Ground in Kinderhook.

While they mourned the ruins of the old Gimp Mill and couldn’t access its sign, they had a good time taking part in the day’s effort.
