This year’s Hendrick Hudson Chapter, NSDAR 2025 Good Citizen is Pearl Theresa Turner of Hudson High School.

December 23, 2025, Hudson, NY: On December 7th, the Hendrick Hudson Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution presented its 2025 Good Citizens awards. Four Columbia County high school seniors were selected as their schools’ DAR Good Citizens for the 2025 school year.
Award winners in alphabetical order by schools are Jaidan Blair, Chatham High School; Emma Katherine Schmidt, Germantown Central School District; Pearl Theresa Turner, Hudson High School; and Autumn Doslop-Land, New Lebanon Jr/Sr High School.
The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest, created in 1934, encourages and rewards qualities of good citizenship to high school seniors from accredited high schools, both public and private, throughout the United States. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities. These pillars of good citizenship are defined by the Daughters of the American Revolution as being necessary to be an exceptional citizen. All four students exhibited these qualities.

The students were selected by their schools because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. One of the scholarship requirements asks the students to write an essay. The title of this year’s essay was Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It. The focus question was ”Our nation will celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America on July 4, 2026. Describe how the characteristics of a good citizen help to renew and strengthen the democracy achieved by the Patriots of the American Revolution.”
The students were judged by a panel of four retired educators who are not members of the NSDAR.
The three runners-up who were presented with an award were as follows: Jaidan Blair, Chatham High School; Autumn Doslop-Land, New Lebanon Jr/Sr High School; and Emma Katherine Schmidt, Germantown Central School District.
This year’s winner, Pearl Theresa Turner of Hudson High School, is the Hendrick Hudson Chapter, NSDAR 2025 Good Citizen.

Pearl demonstrated exceptional service and leadership by volunteering at several after-school clubs and organizations and being active in her community. Pearl exhibits dependability through the commitment of holding a part-time job while excelling in school. Her patriotism is evident through her involvement in civic programs and being a well-rounded, dedicated citizen and an outstanding student of American History.
The Hendrick Hudson Chapter and its Good Citizens Committee Chair Maryanne Lee extend their congratulations to Pearl, and also to all the exceptional runners-up.
Each student has received a certificate, a monetary award, a pin, and a wallet-size card. These deserving students are to be congratulated for all their accomplishments, for their dedication to service to their communities, for their leadership, and for being chosen as winners of the Good Citizens contest for their schools.
