Our chapter’s Literacy Promotion chair is pleased to pass along word of the wonderful Hudson Children’s Book Festival, happening Saturday, May 6th, 10am-3pm. Here’s what the Festival says about itself:
“The Hudson Children’s Book Festival, established in 2009, is held each year in the historic city of Hudson, NY, and strives to create, sustain, and nurture a culture of literacy in partnership with our community and schools. This free, public event fosters a love of reading as families meet and greet world-class creators of books for children of all ages.”
Its website conveys a feel for everything that happens there.

Every student in the large Hudson City School District receives a “Good For” certificate that is good for a book of their choice from any of the dozens and dozens of authors who are there to greet school children, tell them about their books, tell them about how they became writers (and readers), answer their questions, and sign their book. These Good Fors are made possible by the Hudson Literacy Fund, which raises funds for the festival.
The authors who will be there come from all around the country.
The Book Festival is an outstanding event that has had a huge impact on literacy in the Hudson area. See it in action–the energy level there will be HIGH.
